About Fish
Pearl Spot, scientifically known as Etroplus suratensis, is an euryhaline fish found along the east and southwest coasts of India. In Kerala, it is commonly referred to as "Karimeen."
Muscle Structure
- Preferred Foods: The Pearl Spot fish, also known as Karimeen, favors Spirogyra as its primary food, with Fragilleria and Coscinodiscus being other major dietary choices.
- Distinctive Appearance: Karimeen boasts an elliptical black body adorned with shiny white diamond-like spots, earning it the name 'pearl spot.' Despite the term 'kari' implying a dark color, the fish displays a captivating mix of green and black, featuring eight dark black strips from head to tail.
